Australian Review: Netgear Nighthawk X6 R8000 – Overkill

Final Thoughts
Some might call the Nighthawk X6 overkill, while others might call it future-proof. Whatever your opinion, this behemoth of a router feels a bit circumstantial, especially considering its AUD$399 price point and the lack of an integrated modem.

If you're swarming in AC wireless compatible devices, the Nighthawk X6 could be a good option for your network's centrepiece. The most practical application I can think of is wireless LAN gaming; if you're hosting a lot of LAN parties, take a look at the Nighthawk X6. If you've got a local, wireless media server or a small office full of AC wireless devices, the Nighthawk X6 is also worth considering.

At the end of the day, the Nighthawk X6 won't give most users any noticeable increase in speeds. It certainly has the capacity to speed up your wireless network, but you'd need a lot of AC wireless devices to see a difference. Most people don't need something as powerful as the Nighthawk X6, but the fact Netgear is pushing boundaries and trying new ideas like Triband is pretty damn cool.
