Telstra simplifies International Roaming

Telstra today introduced International Roaming Travel Passes, a new system that aims to simplify international roaming for its customers. Telstra's Travel Passes include unlimited voice calls, unlimited SMS messaging and 50 megabytes of data per day. Data outside of the allowance will be billed at AUD$0.03 per megabyte.

The passes can be purchased for a period of 3, 7, 14 or 30 days. Pricing is determined based on the location visited, and Telstra has segregated countries into two zones. Zone 1 travel, encompassing New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia and Bali, will set customers back AUD$5 per day. Zone 2 travel is billed at AUD$10 per day and covers the rest of the world (with some exceptions). A complete list of eligible countries can be found on Telstra' International Roaming Page. Discounts are not offered when purchasing a Travel Pass of a longer duration.

Vodafone introduced a similar offer at the end of last year, allowing its customers to use their existing mobile plan's inclusions while overseas for AUD$5 per day.
