Windows 8 has lost market share for second consecutive month according to the latest usage data from Net Applications. June was the first time Windows 8 saw a decrease in market share.

In June, Windows 8.1 gained market share, but this was evened out by the market share lost by vanilla Windows 8, meaning Windows 8 lost as a whole. In July, both Windows 8.1 and vanilla Windows 8 dropped. This is the first time Windows 8.1 has lost market share.

While the overall drop for July is quite minimal, 0.06%, it is unprecedented for such a new operating system. Despite this, Windows 8 has become a more popular operating system than the heavily criticised Windows Vista.
