Tomorrows Galaxy is Not So Far Far Away – Samsung Launches Galaxy S8
Samsung has launched the Galaxy S8 and S8+ in New York today. Make no mistake, this is the phone that Samsung needed to launch following last years global recall of the Note7. In the interim Samsung has relied on the GalaxyS7 to maintain sales and brand momentum in the smart phone, that is until this morning.
The handsets come in two sizes, 5.8 inch for the S8 and 6.2 inch for the S8+.
The first thing you notice about the handset is the size, it looks a lot larger than it is partly because the illuminated area of the screen now covers 83% of the front face on the phone. Samsung call this Infinity screen and it means that when you’re watching content like a video will you have a larger presentation area on the phone. The second thing the infinity screen presents is that you can now multitask much more easily, tasks such as watching a video while you were writing an email or SMS are now carried out much more easily.
The Galaxy S8 also has a new front focus camera. So your selfies should be better than ever.
Samsung has also stayed true to their galaxy brand by including features like ip68 water and dust resistance, expandable memory up to an extra 256 GBs and Samsung have included the 3.5mm audio jack.
Samsung needs to hit a home run with this handset, and from what specs show they might just do that. They are planning to help along the process some what with a pre order offer that will include a set of Gear VR goggles and remote control. Plus $50 worth of Oculus content. With pre orders being taken from March 31, with the handsets on sale April 28.
The Samsung Ga willlaxy S8 you will have a RRP of $1,199 and Galaxy S8+ will have a RRP of $1,349.
Customers in Australia will be able to purchase the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ in three colours: Midnight Black, Orchid Grey and Maple Gold.
