Nintendo Wii launch and accessories details

Nintendo Australia has finally released details of the Wii console and assorted accessories.

Also, new information on pricing for Wii points (similar to Microsoft points scheme used on the Xbox 360) and games available over Virtual Console.

Taken straight from the Australian Nintendo site-

The Wii will be sold at a SRP of $A399.95. The price includes one wireless Wii Remote controller, one Nunchuk controller and the groundbreaking collection of five different Wii Sports games on one disc, which anyone can play using simple movements.

On launch day Nintendo will have available:

  • Wii Sports: A compilation of tennis, baseball, golf, bowling and boxing, packed-in with every Wii console.
  • Wii Play: That contains 9 games on one disc, available with Wii Remote for SRP$A79.95.
  • New Zelda game: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, the greatest Zelda adventure to date for SRP$A99.95.

Wii’s self-loading media bay also can play the entire library of hundreds of Nintendo GameCube titles from day one.

Plus don’t forget the Virtual Console. This is part of the Wii’s Shop channel where you can purchase classic games from companies such as Nintendo and Sega. The following list is just what is available this Christmas. Expect to see this list grow rapidly next year as more and more games are released.

Virtual Console games available in December 2006-

  • NES
  • Baseball, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Ice Hockey, Mario Bros., Pinball, Soccer, Solomon’s Key (Tecmo), Tennis, The Legend of Zelda, Urban Champion, Wario’s Woods.

  • SNES
  • Donkey Kong Country, F-Zero, SimCity.

  • N64
  • Super Mario 64.

  • SEGA MEGA DRIVE
  • Sonic the Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Columns, Gunstar Heroes, Ecco the Dolphin, Space Harrier II, Toe Jam & Earl, Ristar, Dr. Robotonik’s Mean Bean Machine.

Virtual Console games will be available to download using Wii Points. For the titles available in 2006, NES games will be available for 500 Wii Points (approximately $A7.50), Super NES games will available for 800 Wii Points (approximately $A12.00) and N64 games will be available for 1000 Wii Points, (approximately $A15.00). SEGA MEGA DRIVE games will be available for 800 Wii points. Wii points required for titles available in 2007 may vary.

Wii Points Cards will be available to buy in retail stores and are estimated to retail at around $A30.00 for 2000 Wii Points.
