iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sell over 4 million in 24 hours
Apple today announced a record number of first day pre-orders for its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus handsets, with over four million phone sold in the first 24 hours of availability. For comparison, the last pre-order numbers Apple revealed were for the iPhone 5, which sold 2 million handsets in the first 24 hours of pre-order, and 5 million during its opening weekend of sales.

“Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple", said Apple CEO Tim Cook in a statement, "we can’t wait to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers starting this Friday.”
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in stores from September 19.
