Alcatel is set to release three new smartphones to modernise their lineup with premium features at a low cost.

The Alcatel 1X is the new entry level model for Australia, featuring a 5.3-inch 480p display, a quad core processor, 16GB of storage and an 8MP rear camera. The handset will cost under AUD$100 locally.

The Alcatel 3V will be the mid-range phone in the new lineup, featuring a 6-inch 1080p display, a quad core processor, 16GB to 32GB of expandable storage, and a dual rear camera setup with a main 12MP lens along with a secondary 2MP lens for depth information. The 3V will launch locally in the third quarter of this year for AUD$200.

The Alcatel 5 is the flagship of the new lineup but still costs significantly less than its competitors. It features a 5.7-inch 720p display, an octa-core processor, and 16GB or 32GB of expandable storage. Imaging is handled by a 12MP rear facing cameras and a pair of front facing cameras; one 13MP lens and a wide angle 5MP lens. The Alcatel 5 will cost under AUD$300 locally and ought to be available some time after the middle of this year.

All three new phones sport taller displays with an 18:9 aspect ratio as opposed to the more typical 16:9 style. Alcatel aims to deliver premium materials on each of the new phones as well; even the sub-$100 1X features a unibody design.
