Acer is giving Motorola a run for its money in the entry-level Android smartphone department with its announcement of the Liquid E3 and Liquid Z4.

Between the two, the Liquid E3 packs more punch with a 4.7-inch 720p IPS display, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi and GPS. It also has the company’s RAPID key at the back of the device, which allow users to answer calls, launch the camera or unlock the phone in a single press.

At the back of the Liquid E3 sits a 13MP camera with LED flash and (according to Acer) an ultra-fast focus time. Meanwhile a 2MP camera is placed at the front of the device with an LED flash. The phone will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, but Acer promises that it will be providing a KitKat update after the phone is launched.

On the other hand, the Liquid Z4 boasts a 4.0-inch display with WVGA resolution, a 1.3GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of internal storage that can be expanded via a microSD card, a 5MP rear camera, the same RAPID key as the E3 and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Acer’s own launcher on top.

The Acer Liquid E3 will be available starting in Europe for €199 while the Liquid Z4 will cost €100 less beginning in April.
